So, I listened to my gut, and I decided to take the risk.īetting on myself-and turning down one opportunity for a different one, even when I didn’t know how it would turn out-was one of the best decisions I ever made, and one of the best lessons I ever learned. When I got an offer, I couldn’t stop thinking about what the IBM manager said. I saw a chance to be a part of the future. When I met the Microsoft team and learned about their projects, I was enthralled by the innovation happening right before my eyes. But she spotted an opportunity for me to advance in a fast-growing tech company, and in a field where it was rare for many women to work, let alone work their way up. I was shocked to hear this from someone who built an amazing career at IBM-and from the person who would be my boss if I took the job. When I shared this with the IBM manager, she stopped me mid-sentence and said: “If you get a job offer from Microsoft, you have to take it.” I assumed I’d accept the offer since I’d worked there in undergrad and grad school and liked it, but I had one more company to interview with first: a small startup in Seattle called Microsoft. I had traveled home to Dallas to meet with IBM, the corporate giant that recently offered me a full-time job. #pride2023 #lgbtqia #guildhall #queerart #outandproud #trans #pridenetworks #prideinlondon #gaylife #wholeselfĪ few months before I finished grad school, I had a conversation that changed the trajectory of my career-and my life. Please come and see the pictures and stories:Ī huge thank you to Investec Linklaters Phoenix Group for your support and City of London Corporation our generous hosts. I hope CorporateQueer helps people understand that we have so much more in common with our fellow humans than things that set us apart and it is that shared experience I want to celebrate. Something so “normal’ and ‘ordinary’ as people and their partners, kids or pets tell us so much about the experiences we all share. Something truly lovely is that many have brought their partners and families. When I create the CorporateQueer images I ask my wonderful subjects to choose where they would like to be photographed and if they would like to bring anything with them, to the shoot, to tell more of their whole-self story.

Here’s how you do it.Only 2 Days to go till the 108 #CorporateQueer portraits and stories go on show in Guildhall Yard!

So for this New Year, I’m not only going to try to watch a fireworks display in full view, I’m going to host my own! I’m told I must face my fears if I’m to ever overcome them. BANG! Doesn’t that remind you of a certain green mob?Įnough misery. I just can’t deal with the noises: first a SIZZLE as the firework launches into the sky, and then… eventually… not yet… nearly. Everyone’s celebrating the New Year by watching fireworks pop in the sky, and where am I? Cowering under a table.
